Silicon Irradiance Sensor

for Measurement of Solar Irradiance

Silicon solar irradiation sensors (Si sensors) offer an economical but robust and reliable solution for measuring solar irradiance levels, particularly for monitoring photovoltaic systems. The design of the sensor element, which corresponds to that of a photovoltaic module, make these sensors ideally suited as a reference for monitoring photovoltaic systems. The spectral sensitivity, which corresponds to that of photovoltaic modules, and the very similar incident angle modifier, enable a precise analysis of photovoltaic yields using measured values from the sensor.

We have been manufacturing various types of Si sensors since 1994. So far, we have sold several 10,000 sensors worldwide.

The Measurement Uncertainty of our Si sensors with temperature compensation is 5 W/sqm ± 2.5% of reading (based on GUM with k=2, spectrum AM 1.5 and vertical light beam).

In the framework of our continuous development of our Si sensors we revised our sensors with analog output signals. The market launch of the new Si sensors was 16 October 2017. The external view of the Si sensors will be unchanged and therefore the dimensions and mechanical fixing are identical. Also the internal temperature compensation is the same as before.

Summary of the changes compared to the present sensors:
- Consistent measuring range of the solar irradiance of 0 to 1500 W/sqm
- Consistent measuring range of the internal temperature of the sensor cell of -40 to +90°C
- Improved measurement uncertainty of the internal temperature of sensor cell
